Om en VOR (Very high frequency Omni-directional Range)
Denne VOR står på Als og er benævnt ALSIE med forkortelsen ALS på flyvekort. VOR betyder Very high frequency Omnidirectional Range. En VOR er et fyrtårn for civil lufttrafik. Den sender principielt 360 radiale radiosignaler ud i en elektronisk rotation hele tiden – sammen med en identifikation. Man kan fornemme af billedet, at taget er en flad pandekage, der fra oven ligner en cirkulær skive med en hvid top i midten. Radialerne svarer til graderne i forhold til magnetisk Nord.
I flyene findes et instrument, der dekoder signalerne og viser, hvordan flyet bevæger sig i forhold til VOR’en, både om afstanden øges eller mindskes, og om kursen hen imod eller bort fra VOR’en afviger fra den indstillede radial.
VOR navigationssystemet er internationalt kontrolleret i modsætning til det globale GPS-system.
About a VOR
This VOR is situated on the Danish island Als and is called ALSIE with the abbreviation ALS on flight charts. VOR means Very high frequency Omnidirectional Range. A VOR is a beacon for civil air traffic. It basically sends out 360 radial radio signals in an electronic rotation all the time – together with an identification. Maybe you can tell from the picture that the roof is a flat pancake, which from above looks like a circular disk with a white top in the middle. The radials correspond to the degrees relative to magnetic North.
In the airplanes is a decoding instrument that shows how the plane moves in relation to the VOR, both whether the distance increases or decreases, and whether the course towards or away from the VOR deviates from the set radial.
The VOR navigation system is internationally controlled unlike the global GPS system.
